WOMEN’S PSYCHIATRY

in Arlington, VA and Washington D.C.

Thoughtful, Collaborative Care for Clarity, Energy, and Real Change

This is a service we added because our clients asked for it.

Over time, many of the women we work with found themselves wondering:

  • “Do I need psychiatry—or is therapy enough?”

  • “Could medication help me feel more like myself?”

  • “Is what I’m taking actually working?”

  • “Why do I still feel off, even when I’m doing the work?”

They didn’t want rushed prescriptions or disconnected care.
They wanted a thoughtful, integrated option—within a practice they already trusted.

So we are building it.

Psychiatry for Women—Designed Differently

Whether you’re navigating anxiety, mood changes, hormonal shifts, or simply feeling off—our psychiatry services offer a place to get answers, understand your options, and move forward with clarity.

This is psychiatry designed for women who want to feel:

  • Clearer

  • More steady

  • More energized

  • More like themselves again

Not just functioning—but genuinely well.

A Thoughtful Approach to Psychiatry

Psychiatry here is not about quick prescriptions or one-size-fits-all solutions.

It’s about understanding the full picture—your life, your patterns, your biology—and helping you decide what will actually move the needle.

For some women, medication is helpful.
For others, therapy alone is the right place to start.
For many, it’s a combination over time.

Our role is to help you think clearly, explore options, and make informed decisions—not to push you in any one direction.

Medication is one of many tools we may consider—always thoughtfully, never automatically.

Care Led by a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

Your psychiatry care is provided by a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)—an advanced practice clinician with specialized training in both mental health and whole-person care.

This means your provider:

  • Evaluates both emotional and biological contributors to how you feel

  • Prescribes and manages medications when appropriate

  • Considers hormones, sleep, stress, and physical health

  • Takes a more holistic, patient-centered approach

Many clients find this feels more collaborative, more thorough, and more aligned with how they actually want to be cared for.

Start With Questions—Not Labels

Many women come to psychiatry unsure of what they need—just knowing something isn’t quite right.

  • “Why do I feel anxious, flat, or exhausted?”

  • “Is this hormonal, emotional, or something physical?”

  • “Could my current medication be part of the issue?”

  • “Why does everything feel harder than it should?”

You don’t need a diagnosis to begin.

You just need a place to slow down and think clearly, with the right support.

Therapy Is the Foundation

We are, first and foremost, a therapy-centered practice.

Psychiatry is offered as an adjunct—something that can support the work, not replace it.

  • We don’t view medication as a shortcut

  • We don’t bypass the deeper work

  • We integrate psychiatry in a way that strengthens therapy

For many clients, simply knowing this is available—if and when they need it—creates a sense of ease.

Looking for the Root—Not Just the Symptoms

Sometimes what looks like anxiety, depression, or burnout isn’t purely psychological.

It can be influenced by:

  • Hormonal changes (postpartum, perimenopause, menopause)

  • Thyroid or metabolic shifts

  • Sleep disruption

  • Chronic stress on the nervous system

  • Inflammation in the body

  • Underlying or emerging medical conditions

Many women come in saying:

  • “I feel off, but I can’t explain why.”

  • “I’m tired all the time.”

  • “My mood and focus feel different lately.”

These experiences deserve more than a quick label.

Inflammation, Mood & Energy

There is growing recognition of the connection between inflammation and mental health.

For some women, inflammation can contribute to:

  • Low mood or emotional flatness

  • Anxiety or irritability

  • Brain fog or difficulty concentrating

  • Persistent fatigue or low energy

While psychiatry does not diagnose or treat autoimmune or inflammatory conditions directly, your PMHNP can:

  • Help you recognize when something more systemic may be at play

  • Support you in deciding whether to pursue further medical evaluation

  • Coordinate with your physician or specialists

  • Stabilize mood and anxiety while you sort through the bigger picture

This often brings a sense of clarity, validation, and direction.
