Frequently Asked Questions
You may have some questions about working with me…
Do you see clients online or in person?
I offer both in-person and virtual sessions. In-person appointments are available on Wednesdays at my Arlington office, located at 1530 Wilson Boulevard, and on Thursdays in Spring Valley, a quiet residential neighborhood in Northwest Washington, DC, near American University and the Palisades. I also see clients virtually throughout the week using a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform, providing continuity of care and scheduling flexibility.
When do you see clients?
For your convenience, you can view current availability and request appointments directly through the website. Laura Williams, our Office Manager, is also available to help you find a time that fits your schedule and to answer any scheduling questions at hello@sarahmoorelpc.com.
Do you see men?
Yes. While my practice has a particular focus on women’s therapy, I also work with men as individuals and partners, tailoring our approach to each client’s goals and circumstances.
Do you offer a free initial consultation?
Yes. I offer a complimentary initial consultation so you can ask questions and get a sense of what it would be like to work together before deciding whether therapy feels like the right next step.
How do I schedule a free initial consultation?
You can request a complimentary consultation by completing the form on this page, scheduling directly through the website or contacting Laura Williams at hello@sarahmoorelpc.com. Our team will follow up promptly to confirm next steps.
How often do you meet with clients?
Many clients begin with weekly sessions, which allows us to build momentum and address what’s bringing you in with care and consistency. During periods of increased stress, we can meet more frequently if that feels supportive.
I understand that many people prefer bi-weekly sessions, and I’m absolutely open to that. Because my schedule can fill, bi-weekly appointments do tend to require a bit more advance planning to keep your preferred time consistent. We can talk through what would work best for you and set up a rhythm that feels both supportive and realistic.
As you begin to feel more like yourself again, we’ll reassess together—whether that means bringing therapy to a thoughtful close, or transitioning to a less frequent schedule for continued support and reflection.
What is the cost for therapy?
Sarah Moore, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
Individual Psychotherapy: $250 per 45-minute session
Couples Therapy: $300 per 60-minute session
Residents in Counseling
Individual Psychotherapy: $165 per 45-minute session
Couples Therapy: $225 per 60-minute session
Will therapy be covered by my insurance?
We are out-of-network providers. Many clients receive partial reimbursement by submitting a superbill to their insurance company, which we are happy to provide — simply contact Laura Williams at hello@sarahmoorelpc.com. Please note that therapy with Residents is sometimes, but not always, reimbursed depending on your plan.
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) may also be used to pay for therapy.
How do I verify coverage?
Because we are not contracted with insurance providers, many clients choose to check their out-of-network benefits in advance so they have a clear understanding of potential reimbursement. We can provide a monthly superbill, which you may submit according to your plan’s policies.
When speaking with your insurance provider, it may be helpful to ask:
Do I have mental health benefits?
What are my out-of-network benefits for psychotherapy services?
What is my out-of-network deductible, and has it been met?
How much will my plan reimburse for out-of-network therapy?
(Common CPT codes: 90834, 90837, 90791)Do I need pre-authorization or a referral from my primary care physician?
Because coverage and reimbursement vary by plan, your insurance provider is the best source of information about your specific benefits.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
Yes. I have a 48-hour cancellation policy. Appointments canceled with less than 48 hours’ notice are subject to the full session fee.
How do I prepare for a session?
Many clients find it helpful to give themselves a few minutes before and after sessions to pause—whether through quiet reflection, journaling, light stretching, or simply taking a breath. Turning off distractions such as phones, work notifications, and other electronics can also help you stay fully present. For virtual sessions, choosing a private, comfortable space allows you to settle in and get the most from our time together.
